Helianthus decapetalus / Thinleaf sunflower

A cool-yellow perennial sunflower that thrives in moist and wet shade, found wild along forest streams, rivers and the edges of swampy woods. Attractively colonial, it makes a long-blooming ornamental and a great source of small sunflower seeds for seed-eating birds.

Host plant for the Silvery Checkerspot butterfly and Giant Leopard moth.

Siting: Average to wet soil, part sun to shade. Tolerates well-drained soils.
