Chelone glabra / White Turtlehead


Turtleheads bear lustrous white blooms on a spike, bearing some resemblance to its namesake. Found growing in wet meadows and also forested streams.

Great late-season bloomer.

Host plant for the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly, an infrequent but captivating species. See images below.
