Amelanchier stolonifera / Running Serviceberry

$42.00

This rare species is a short-statured Juneberry native to sunny edges and glades on thin soil, in bedrock cracks in ridgelines, and other fairly non-competitive environments. It tends to run laterally on short stolons, becoming a multi-stemmed shrub over time. It will need protection from deer, and also relief from tall competitive and weedy plants.

Flowers are a bit smaller than the common Juneberry species, but the fruit is still tasty. Also known as Amelanchier spicata.

Host plant for Red Spotted Purple and Striped Hairstreak, and others. See below.

Height: 1-4′  Blooms: April

Habitat: Dry to average, sun to part sun

Deer Resistance: Low

Provenance: NJ
